Background
Kangu is a small organization with a big dream: that every woman survives her pregnancy and childbirth. The first crowdfunding platform for safe births, Kangu, makes it possible for anyone anywhere to fund $10 or more of a pregnant woman’s access to high-quality healthcare before, during and after childbirth. These services are proven to reduce maternal and newborn deaths by up to 90%, and are offered through our in-country medical partners at about $200 per woman, or 1% of the usual cost.
Kangu is an innovative, technology-obsessed non-profit that is unlocking a new source of capital for hospitals, clinic and non-profits around the world and expanding health services to pregnant women when they need it most. Kangu has been covered in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Forbes, and profiled on 20 radio stations around the country. Through campaigns, media outlets, corporate partnerships and individual giving, Kangu has reached over 15 million people and funded the safe births of over 700 pregnant women in Uganda, India, Burundi, Nepal, Bolivia, Guatemala, Mexico and Kenya.
